The Leverick Bay Poker Run is the most exciting and anticipated nautical event in the British Virgin Islands. Why? Every year the Leverick Bay Poker Run event grows with more participating boats and people arriving to enjoy becoming part of history while having fun. Last year, 2018, was full of celebrations and excitement. Leverick Bay Poker Run attracted hundreds of boating enthusiasts from all over and once again exceeded attendance records with over 250 registered boats and more than 2,800 people enjoying the festivities and great company.
The prizes were all celebrated and awarded with enthusiasm among those participating. We has boaters from all the islands cheering on during the ceremony mostly from the BVI, USVI and Puerto Rico. The 2016 Poker Run winners were:
The Poker Run organizing committee and official staff are proud and honored to have the unconditional support from all those that participated. This large turnout allows us to raise suffient funds to support the local charities every year assuring the success of the event. We honestly appreciate the support. We have greater expectations for 2020!!! See you again!!!
Upon first conceiving the Leverick Bay Poker Run as an annual celebration, one of the purposes was to eventually help benefit charities with a sizable amount of funds and improve quality of life for all BVI residents. As the Poker Run launched back in 2001, we simply aimed for fostering a feeling of community through a fun activity and hoped it would continue to grow and gather enough support to keep going through the years.
Now entering our 19th year, excited and humbled by the great success of the Leverick Bay Poker Run, we are proud to announce the bestowed amount to charities continues to increase year after year due to the many people and businesses that support us. For 2020, we expect an even larger participation given the new raffles and opportunities to win, a development that will also help increase the bequeathed amount for BVI charities. Chances to win a cash prize are better than ever and we encourage everyone to join this year's run.
At this time, we've been able to confer over $100,000 to local charities and expect this trend to keep on for years to come thanks to the unwavering support of the boating community and all those who enjoy a good nautical activity. Some of the local charities who've benefited from proceeds include The Virgin Gorda Diabetes Association, the Virgin Gorda Animal Rescue, the Virgin Gorda Track Team, The Virgin Gorda Cars Association, and the Red Cross, among others.
2002- First Poker Run, 15 boats said they would attend ; only 12 showed up, 3 of them from Puerto Rico. From there on, the event grew in popularity. Five years later, in 2007, the event had grown to 80 boats. In 2009, thanks to the involvement of JL Marketing Firm, the event doubled its size to 121 boats. The estimate for this year's 19th Anniversary is around 200-300 boats and 2,000 participants.
